Expenses of Innovation

I recently had a discussion with my peers about Google attempts to create an OS that we presumed along the likes of a “Web Browser” that replaces an “OS”.

I visualize that the first time the computer boots up, it has zero softwares pre-installed. It only has a Web Browser that shows a webpage for users to configure Wireless Network access point to get connected into the internet.

Once on the internet, any computing needs will be satisfied by AJAX powered applications. Example, Google Docs.

These AJAX powered applications are supported by Cloud Computers (also known as clusters of servers owned and managed by the web hosting provider). Using the Cloud Computers, only a low performance CPU is required for the PC user since most computation is performed on the Cloud Computers.

We questioned the implications of this innovation. At what expense does this approach has?

WolframAlpha is getting all the buzz as the new killer application that can dislodge Google from its throne… Will believe it when I see it! Still looking forward to being able to get answers to questions that haven’t been asked before!

In the automotive industry junk cars are dubbed lemons; these are the junkers that shady auto dealers repaint and polish just to make the cars more attractive to unsuspecting car buyers. So you’ve got to be asking why is a company like Microsoft (a company historically championed for their innovation) being compared to a shady auto dealer. In a nutshell, as you start to actually listen to the tech savvy experts of the world, you too will also begin to uncover that the new Windows 7 platform is surprisingly like the painted lemon you try to avoid when buying a car.

In today’s information age, software application security is paramount. Nevertheless, the proliferation of malware, worms, viruses, etc. still plague us despite concerted efforts from the OS maker such as Microsoft, antivirus companies, endpoint security companies.
